The application period for this class closed on August 23rd. The Danville Area Training Center Recruit Academy is a 10-week apprenticeship program for the Danville Life Saving Crew. Classes are held Monday through Friday. Class times are 8:30am to 5:30pm. The apprenticeship is recognized by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. Support is received by Virginia Workforce and the Institute of Advanced Learning & Research (IALR).
Students in the Recruit Academy will be paid hourly during the training. This program is designed for those that wish to go straight from the classroom to the ambulance once they finish the class.
The Academy is more than just the EMT Class. We also complete training in Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC), Vehicle Rescue Awareness, Mass Casualty I&II, Traffic Incident Management Systems (TIMS), CPR , and NIMS. During the Academy, you will complete quizzes, exams, ride time on a DLSC ambulance, and lots of hands-on training in the classroom.
The next Recruit Academy will start in late September. The application period is August 1st to August 23rd. After applications are accepted, each prospective student will complete in interview. Go to the Recruit Academy page to download an application.
The Danville Area Training Center Rescue Academy is an 8-month Emergency Medical Technician program with extra classes built in to the curriculum. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Class times are 6:00pm to 9:00pm. There will be one or two Saturday classes. Students will know the Saturday class dates well ahead of time. The Rescue Academy is designed for those that are currently working or attending school during the day.
Our Academy is a partnership with Danville Community College! Academy students that register as a student with DCC during the beginning of class will receive the benefits of being a DCC student. This includes a greatly reduced tuition for the Rescue Academy. The last two years the majority of our students attended at little to no cost to them!

The Danville Area Training Center was built in 2004 to fill Danville's void in life support and EMS training. Today, the DATC trains thousands of healthcare providers, EMTs, and community members each year. They offer courses ranging from First Aid/CPR, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced EMT, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.
